Soundboards and prepared phrases
A soundboard plays prepared audio at the press of a button.
Part of Communication methods.
How it works
A clip might be recorded words, a signature sound, a saved TTS phrase or a sound effect. Soundboards are built for speed and for the things a creator expects to say again and again.
- Input: A button or hotkey.
- Processing: Playback of a clip that already exists.
- Delivery: Recorded speech or sound.
Greetings, reactions and catchphrases land on time, often filling the gap while a longer message is typed.
What it isn’t
A clip is prepared in advance. Typed TTS voices a new message written in the moment. A saved TTS phrase can sound just like live TTS, but pressing a button to play it is playback, not a newly composed line.
Before you stream with it
Keep the clips you use most on keys you can reach mid-game, and check that a hotkey doesn’t also trigger a game control.
Questions
- What is a soundboard on stream?
- A set of prepared audio clips the creator plays with a button or hotkey, such as greetings, reactions, catchphrases or sound effects.
- Is a soundboard the same as TTS?
- No. A soundboard plays clips that already exist. Typed TTS voices a new message written in the moment.
- Can a soundboard clip use a TTS voice?
- Yes. A saved TTS phrase can be a soundboard clip. It still counts as prepared playback.
- How do soundboards work with other methods?
- They handle the quick, repeated moments. A clip can greet a viewer or land a joke while a longer reply is typed.
